Charlotte Hoffman Arts

Charlotte and her husband David live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains with their  parrots,  dogs and other critters.  Charlotte paints mainly in pastel,  David is a photographer.

They draw their inspiration from the California landscape and overlooked everyday subjects.  David and Charlotte are members of the Yosemite Western Artists Organization.

An Artist's Adventures, Misadventures and Non adventures

A Little Background

Charlotte knew she wanted to be an artist at a very early age.  This early awareness is  very common among artists.  She had a drive to create and express her unique views of the world.  With each piece of art created, a portion of the artist's soul is revealed.  Charlotte says, "the magic happens when a viewer connects to that piece of art and feels a deep sense of familiarity or understanding".  Art is a necessity for humanity.  It's a vehicle of communication that's been with us since the cave drawings.

  Within the journey of searching for ways to express ideas, some mediums reveal the artist's soul better than others.  For Charlotte the pastel has become the vehicle with which to express her visions.

  While growing up, every few years the family moved to a new location.  Having lived  on 4 continents gives her an awareness of changing light and landscape.

Today Charlotte's main choice of subject is the California landscape.  Perhaps it's related to those first impressions of light and landscape in far away places.  "Our first memories influence us forever," says Charlotte.

Charlotte also enjoys abstracting the landscape.  She says, "There's a fulfillment that comes from reaching deeper within the soul for the truly primal and instinctive responses.  This  results in a clearer and more honest creation."
