Part 1 – Our Home Base Rochegude
Update: I would NOT recommend renting this house after my experience trying to get my deposit back! See Post in November about THAT experience.
I took my daughters to France for 2 weeks. We left Friday August 3 from LAX. The tiny village of Rochegude was our home base for 9 days. The town is on a hill with Chateau Rochegude on top. Our rented house sits on a one way street leading to the Chateau. This is the view from our front door looking down the one way street. We found the house on VRBO and I’d highly recommend it if you’re looking for a quiet out of the way location. We were 15 – 20 minutes from Orange on country roads, 35 minutes from Avignon via the A7.
Around the corner, down the street a bit farther.
Turned around, looking up the street at our home away from home with the lavender shutters. Livingroom and kitchen on the ground floor, bedroom and bathroom on second floor, 2 bedrooms on 3rd floor. Between the steep stairs in the house and the town on a hill, our legs were whipped into shape for Montmartre’s steep hills in Paris.
Looking up the street. Heidi and Michelle at the front door. Now this might look like a quiet street leading nowhere but it’s actually the D827 and we did get some traffic. I carefully parked the rental car so it wouldn’t get sideswiped.
This is the neighbor’s garage. We wondered if the building was in use until the neighbor backed her car out. There’s a faded sign over the door that we couldn’t read.
And further around the corner. The first few days were overcast with thunder and rain one morning. We were held hostage by Air France telling us everyday the missing luggage would be delivered. We arrived in the area Saturday. Michelle got her luggage around noon Monday. Tuesday we drove 1 1/2 hours back to Marseille Airport and retrieved Heidi’s luggage around 7:30pm. Wednesday we could finally leave the house and explore the area.
A little further up the street.
And finally at the top of the hill, Chateau Rochegude. This is an over look of the valley below.
